Last week, the Cougars pounded out a $10 top score win over the Gauchos; the Predators looked good with a full roster in a win over their longtime rivals, The Megatons; and The Spoiler wiped the floor with the Houston Fuzz. The Original Division still holds an 11-8-1 advantage in inter-division play after 20 games.
This week the Extra Crispy Division's middle two teams, the Delta Marauders and The Megatons square off in a match that finds both teams at a crossroads. At 3-4-1, a loss could put the DMs' season in jeopardy. With a loss, The Megatons drop to 4-5 and continue their roller coaster season with another valley instead of a peak.
The theme of this week's preview will be featuring the kickers involved in each match-up. So sit back, relax, and good luck in your games this weekend.
GAME of the WEEK
THE MEGATONS
(4-4, EXTRA CRISPY DIVISION)
VS
DELTA MARAUDERS
(3-4-1, EXTRA CRISPY DIVISION)
RYAN LONGWELL
(84-points)
VS
NICK FOLK
(31-points)
RYAN LONGWELL (The Megatons)
Longwell is now 6 for 6 in field goals this season, but is not getting the same number of chances he did last season. The Vikings have struggled to score this season, which has limited his opportunities. He still has a very strong leg, but needs to start scoring more to return to the rightful place among the top Fantasy Ks in the league. Consider him just a low-end Fantasy K heading into Week 9 against the Cardinals.
NICK FOLK (Delta Marauders)
Folk is usually a reliable source of Fantasy production since the Jets offense is good, but not so good that it only scores touchdowns. Well, that offense didn't come through in Week 8, leaving Folk's Fantasy owners high and dry. You have to think the Jets will rebound in a big way Week 9 at Detroit, though, so you can continue to think of Folk as a No. 1 Fantasy kicker.
PREDATORS
(6-2, ORIGINAL DIVISION)
VS
ALLIE-GATORS
(2-5-1, ORIGINAL DIVISION)
ADAM VINATIERI
(61-points)
VS
DAVID AKERS
(52-points)
These two kickers are actually facing each other in Week 9 when Indy travels to Philadelphia.
ADAM VINATIERI (Predators)
Vinatieri is now 13 for 15 on the season and should continue to rack up plenty of points as long as Peyton Manning is under center for Indy. He showed he can still hit from distance and should remain active in all lineups heading into Week 9 at Philadelphia.
DAVID AKERS (Allie-Gators)
Despite his Week 6 performance, Akers remains a valuable asset in Fantasy leagues as a usually accurate kicker on an above-average offensive team. He'll be on a bye in Week 8, however, so you'll have to look elsewhere for options. In Week 9, he'll take on the Colts at home.
COUGARS
(6-2, EXTRA CRISPY DIVISION)
VS
PARKING THUGS
(3-5, EXTRA CRISPY DIVISION)
NEIL RACKERS
(53-points)
VS
SEBASTIAN JANIKOWSKI
(84-points)
Rackers was a perfect 7 for 7 in field goals attempts through the first three games this season but has been little-used of late. He hasn't topped the double-digit scoring mark since Week 2 but remains a viable option in most formats since he plays for a high-scoring team in Houston. Continue to view Rackers as a solid option heading into Week 9 against the Chargers.
SEBASTIAN JANIKOWSKI (Parking Thugs)
Janikowski keeps on producing for the Raiders and now that the offense is clicking, he's getting more chances to kick. In Week 9, the Raiders host the Chiefs. The Raiders are playing really well and with a rivalry game up next, Janikowski should continue to get his looks. He remains a No. 1 Fantasy kicker in all leagues.
BACKDOOR BANDITS
(4-4, ORIGINAL DIVISION)
VS
HOUSTON FUZZ
(2-6, EXTRA CRISPY DIVISION)
MASON CROSBY
(62-points)
VS
STEPHEN GOSTKOWSKI
(55-points)
MASON CROSBY (Backdoor Bandits)
Crosby has been a little inconsistent this year for Fantasy purposes, in part because the Packers have been scoring touchdowns instead of field goals. Still, because he plays for a high-scoring offense, you can rest assured he won't disappear on you. Keep him active as a No. 1 Fantasy kicker against the Cowboys in Week 9.
STEPHEN GOSTKOWSKI (Houston Fuzz)
Gostkowski is 10 for 13 in field goal attempts this season with a long of 43 yards. He is very accurate and should get plenty of chances to score playing for the Patriots high-powered offense. He can be considered a viable Fantasy K heading into Week 9 against the Browns.
THE SPOILER
(6-2, ORIGINAL DIVISION)
VS
GAUCHOS
(3-5, ORIGINAL DIVISION)
MIKE NUGENT
(60-points)
VS
MATT RYAN
(59-points)
MIKE NUGENT (The Spoiler)
Nugent had been racking up the Fantasy points this season, so he was due for a bad performance like this sooner or later. In Week 9, things could be tough for Nugent again as the Bengals host the Steelers, so his owners might want to look elsewhere if they can.
MATT RYAN (Gauchos)
Bryant hasn't gotten as many opportunities over the last couple weeks, but he's still one of the more consistent kickers in Fantasy. The Falcons offense is good enough to put him in range but not so good that he never gets chances. You'll need to look for another option in Week 8, when the Falcons are on bye, but you'll want to have him active again for Week 9 against the Buccaneers.
So good luck to all in Week 9! Who knows? Maybe one of these kickers above will be the difference between victory and defeat!
