ORIGINAL DIVISION
GAUCHOS vs ALLIE-GATORS
The BCFFL welcomes back Alex McMurray as an owner and participant once again. The Gauchos' fortunes are led by our 2010 commissioner and owner of some impressive fantasy credentials, including: (a) Least Points Allowed, Season (1,386); Highest Winning Percentage (92%); Most Wins Per Season (12); Longest Winning Streak (9); and Best Power Ranking (30). It's been a few years, but the 2005 BCFFL Champion is ready once again to go to battle this season!
The Allie-Gators, meanwhile, also have the fantasy credentials worthy of championship consideration. They, too, own the Best Power Ranking (30), along with the Most High Week Scores (9); Best Average Point Differential (44.5); Least Points Allowed in a Game (29); as well as a BCFFL Championship banner!
The CBS Sports preview has the Allie-Gators favored by 43-points in Week 1 over the Gauchos, but that obviously remains to be seen. At the moment, the Gators will go with two QBs in Matthew Stafford and Jay Cutler, while the Gauchos will only start Titans' QB, Vince Young.
The Gauchos, heavy at the WR spot are going to roll the dice with Devery Henderson on Thursday night for the possible double-TD and start two other WRs (Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald) along with three RBs: Jamaal Charles, Ray Rice, and Jahvid Best. The Gators will counter with MJD and Cedric Benson at RB, and Wes Welker, Reggie Wayne and Greg Jennings at WR.
Stay tuned as the winner in this contest will likely have an early edge in the Original Division.
BACKDOOR BANDITS vs THE SPOILER
The 2008 BCFFL Champion hopes to regain his championship form in his third BCFFL season as Greg's Backdoor Bandits welcome Kelvin's gang, The Spoiler. The Bandits have a 26-point edge on the CBS Sports site heading into Week 1.
Last season, the Bandits finished with the BCFFL's third all-time highest average game score, 160.23 points. This team knows how to put points on the board and they drafted well this season. Once again they wound up with the #1 overall pick in the draft! We'll get a chance to see right away what Chris Johnson is made of as the Tennessee Titans battle our very own Oakland Raiders in Week 1. Joining CJ in the backfield for the Backdoor Bandits will be the deadly duo of Ryan Grant and Michael Turner. You want to talk about a formidable fantasty three-headed monster. Wow!
The Spoiler have challenged for championships in the BCFFL past and this year they're hoping to get their hands on the trophy. They have their work cut out for them right away with the mighty Bandits. But with their fortunes in the hands of Aaron Rodgers (signal caller for Greg's favorite team, Green Bay) anything could happen and The Spoiler may finally reach the mountaintop. Kevin Kolb will carry the other QB duties for The Spoiler and their RBs for now are Beanie Wells, Shonn Greene, and Rashard Mendenhall.
Catching passes for the Bandits in Week 1 will be DeSean Jackson, Malcolm Floyd, and Tony Gonzalez, while Jeremy Maclin, Josh Cribbs, and Dallas Clark handle the pass-catching responsibilities for The Spoiler. It looks like the Bandits have the edge on paper. We'll have to see if they're as good as advertised this season!
INTER-DIVISION BATTLE!
PREDATORS vs COUGARS
The 2009 BCFFL Champion, Predators, begin defense of their second championship as they face the Cougars in an inter-division contest! With a league best record of 56-29 (since 2005) and Most Points Scored in a Season (2,420) among other records the Predators hold, they have showed no signs of slowing down in their quest for a third BCFFL title this season.
With Peyton Manning and Andre Johnson leading the way, the Predators had a fabulous draft to look back on. And they should feel confident that their title hopes are alive and well as they tackle the new season. The Predators are favored by 28-points on the CBS Sports site heading into Week 1.
Next to Manning, the Predators will challenge the Cougars combo of Peyton's brother, Eli Manning, and Mark Sanchez, with the legendary Brett Favre. At RB, it'll be Arian Foster and Ahmad Bradshaw going up against Adrian Peterson and Frank Gore for the Cougars. You kind of have to like the Cougars chances with that tandem in the backfield. Credit three-time BCFFL champion and ex-BCFFLer John Castanha with the shrewd draft day maneuvering. Go figure: the one time John pays attention on draft day he picks Ken an amazing team.
The WR match-up is also impressive in this contest as Jermichael Finley, Brandon Marshall, and Andre Johnson go for the Preds against Calvin Johnson, Chad Ochocinco, and Percy Harvin for the Cougars. Meanwhile, it'll be Visanthe Shiancoe against Antonio Gates at tight end.
This is definitely a heavyweight fight between two of the original BCFFL powerhouses as the Predators battle the Cougars in Week 1.
EXTRA CRISPY DIVISION
THE MEGATON VS HOUSTON FUZZ
The Megatons, perennial powerhouses of the BCFFL return once again in a quest for their third championship victory. They begin the season as 8-point underdogs to Chris' Houston Fuzz in Week 1.
The Megatons enter the season with Drew Brees at QB along with the talents of Matt Ryan. The Fuzz will trot out their #1 pick in Matt Schaub along with Carson Palmer. At RB, the Tons will enjoy their triple threat of Pierre Thomas, Brandon Jacobs, and Steven Jackson this season. The Fuzz counter with Ryan Mathews, Ronnie Brown, and Marion Barber.
At WR, the Tons go with Panthers all-pro Steve Smith (back from injury) and Miles Austin, with Brent Celek at tight end. The Fuzz have Pierre Garcon, Kevin Walter, and Jason Witten at TE.
This looks to be a fairly evenly-matched battle. Will the Fuzz pull off the opening weekend victory over a BCFFL original in the Extra Crispy Division match-up? Or will Andrew re-assert himself as a title contender early in the season?
DELTA MARAUDERS vs PARKING THUGS
In our final match-up of Week 1, Shane's Delta Marauders are back to battle Bryan and Mark's Parking Thugs in an Extra Crispy Division contest.
The Thugs are favored by 13-points on the CBS Sports site heading into Week 1. They will challenge the DMs Tom Brady and newly-appointed starting QB Sam Bradford with their top pick, Philip Rivers and Cowboys' QB, Tony Romo.
At RB, the DMs look to start Matt Forte and C.J. Spiller against the Fuzz's triple threat of Reggie Bush, DeAngelo Williams and LeSean McCoy. It's a Battle of the Bay at TE as the 49ers' Vernon Davis (DMs) takes on the Raiders' Zach Miller (Thugs). And lastly, at WR, the DMs put up Mike Wallace, Louis Murphy, and Roddy White against the Thugs' combination of Mike Sims-Walker and NYG's Steve Smith.
The Thugs hope to kick things off with a strong start against the Marauders in Week 1.
