WEEK 1 REPORT

ALLIE-GATORS "CUT"
THE GAUCHOS TO PIECES!

The Allie-Gators got off to a great start for the 2010 season with a 153-108 victory over the Gauchos. Leading the way to victory was Jay Cutler, who seems to have figured out that he needs to throw the ball to his own teammates instead of the opposition. That worked out well for him and the Bears to the tune of a combined 455 passing yards (along with now-injured QB, Matthew Stafford), and an 89-yard TD pass to Matt Forte. Cutler's game-high 36-points was the driving force for the Gators in Week 1.

In a supporting role, the new-and-improved Patriots wide receiver, Wes Welker, caught 2 TDs (9- and 4-yards, respectively) in New England's win over the Bengals. Reggie Wayne continues to be the Colts #1 receiving threat and caught a 19-yard TD pass in his team's opening weekend road loss to Houston. And rounding out the receiving trio for the AGs, Greg Jennings also caught a 32-yard TD pass in Green Bay's road win over the Eagles.

The Gators got maximum effort out of their line-up and it appears that they've drafted a very strong, high-scoring team. Very few points were left on the bench in this rout. Perhaps Mohamed Massaquoi (14-points) would be worth consideration. The AGs had a respectable 163 rushing yards in Week 1.

For the Gauchos, their *starting line-up* should have been the reserves. That shows what a year off can do to a fantasy football owner. Prior to kick-off on Sunday morning, the Gauchos completed a deal with the Predators, sending Jahvid Best, David Garrard, and Larry Fitzgerald to acquire QB Chad Henne, Jonathan Stewart, and Jacoby Jones.

Turns out, Matt Hasselbeck (26-points) and the Seattle Seahawks might have some life left in them. That's good news for the rest of the season for the Gauchos, but not so much for this past weekend. Vince Young meanwhile looked like he's continuing to make strides, tossing a 56-yard TD pass against Oakland in Tennesee's big win.

Jamaal Charles hot start at the end of last season spilled over into the Chiefs' opening day win over San Diego, as he broke loose for a 70+ yard run on Monday night and tallied 25-points for the Gauchos.

In the end, the Gauchos simply did not have the right weapons on the field in Week 1. WR Austin Collie (Indy) had a career day (36-points), and the Patriots DST stole the show against Cincinnati (35-points). You can bet that the Gauchos won't make this costly of an error in the weeks to come. (I can personally guarantee that!)

Congrats to the Allie-Gators who have all the looks of a strong contender and now prepare to face the Parking Thugs. The Thugs will be looking for a trip to the pay window after a drubbing by the Delta Marauders. The Gauchos battle the Houston Fuzz in Week 2. Both teams are looking for win #1.

BACKDOOR BANDITS
OPENING WEEKEND
"SPOIL"ED!

Hakeem Nicks simply dominated on Sunday against Carolina, and thanks to his 3 TD performance and 37-point outburst, The Spoiler dropped a 132-95 win on the Backdoor Bandits in Week 1. Nicks caught TD passes of 26-, 19-, and 5-yards in the NY football Giants opening day win.

Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall contributed heavily to the Spoiler victory with a 50-yard TD run and 29-points of his own. Tight end Dallas Clark pitched in with 18-points, and Packers' QB Aaron Rodgers helped out with 17-points on TD passes of 2- and 32-yards.

The one lowlight for The Spoiler might have been the play of Kevin Kolb (1-point). Both bench QBs - Jason Campbell (16-points) and Kyle Orton (19-points) - would have been better options.

The Backdoor Bandits certainly enjoyed the services of #1 draft pick, Chris Johnson, who waxed the Oakland defense with a 76-yard TD run and a 4-yarder for good measure. He was good for 38-points for the BBs. Trouble is, that was pretty much the only ammunition in their arsenal in Week 1.

Kicker Mason Crosby was the only other starter to break double-figures with 12-points. Darren McFadden, the other guy in Sunday's Titans/Raiders game, actually finished looking good with 24-points of his own. But you have to figure that Ryan Grant and Michael Turner are going to have better outings in the coming weeks than their combined 8-points last weekend.

The Bandits will lick their wounds and live to see another day. Next weekend it will be a showdown against the Cougars. The Spoiler, meanwhile, square off with The Megatons in our only "The vs The" game. Best of luck to both teams as we move forward into the season!

DEFENDING CHAMPION PREDATORS
START WHERE THEY LEFT OFF:
HUGE WIN!

The 2009 BCFFL Champion Predators don't look a pound heavier, a day older, or any less than what they were at the conclusion of last season: like champions! The Predators drafted the likes of Peyton Manning and Andre Johnson - fantasy GIANTS! - and went out and pounded the Cougars, 154-96, in their Week 1 match-up.

Manning's Colts lost but he was spectacular with 45-points. Johnson was a little less than spectacular with just 3-points. But his Texans teammate,Arian Foster picked him up BIG TIME with 47-points of his own. If you're keeping score at home, that's 92-points out of 2 players in the same game. That's 4-points less than the Cougars whole squad in Week 1.

So the rest of the line-up for the Predators was gravy. All except for the 49ers DST. This, by the way, was the first DST taken in our draft. Ahead of the Ravens, the Jets, the Chiefs, and any other team. They totaled 0-points. Little did it matter.

Arian Foster is a revelation at RB and he scored 3 times for Houston on runs of  1-, 25-, and 8-yards. The Predators have over 250 rushing yards and 5 rushing TDs (with Jahvid Best's 2 scores), over 600 passing yards courtesty of future Hall of Famers, Favre and Manning, and over 230 receiving yards.

It's tough to beat 10 touchdowns anywhere, anytime. Ouch.

The Cougars are going to have to take this big league butt whooping in stride. It's just one game. Their line-up looks very formidable, but they suffered a couple of slow starts in Adrian Peterson (9-points) and Frank Gore (7-points). The 49ers in general (their defense, Gore, etc) looked terrible.

The QB situation looks promising for the Cougars. Eli Manning had 20-points less than his brother with 25 total. But Mark Sanchez was dreadful (3-points). Perhaps Trent Edwards (13-points) will get the green light in the coming weeks.

The Predators continue their championship encore with a Week 2 battle against the Delta Marauders. With the amount of add/drops these two do, there's absolutely no way of knowing who will be in the starting line-up until about 9:59am this Sunday. The Cougars, as mentioned, will face off against the Backdoor Bandits in Week 2.

MEGATONS WIN A
NAILBITER OVER FUZZ!

The Megatons escaped with a 98-91 win over the Houston Fuzz in Week 1. Cowboys WR Miles Austin helped out tremendously on Sunday night with 24-points in Dallas' road loss to the Redskins. Subtract those 4-points and you'll see what the Megatons were staring at heading into the prime time affair: a loss.

The Houston Fuzz celebrated the start of a new season with a trip to Reliant Stadium to enjoy the Texans 34-24 victory (some are calling it a watershed win) over their division rivals, Indianapolis. How'd you enjoy the game, Campbell?

Carson Palmer led the way for the Fuzz with 27-points at Foxboro. Ronnie Brown was pretty much the only other threat in the line-up on Sunday with 16-points for the Fuzz.

The Megatons countered with Austin's 24-points, Drew Brees' season opener total of 17-points, and Steve Smith's 17-points. Up next for The Megatons will be The Spoiler. The Gauchos are next up for the Fuzz.

DELTA MARAUDERS
TRASH THE THUGS!

If the Texans win over the Colts is to be considered a watershed victory, then the DMs win over the Parking Thugs in Week 1 can be considered a woodshed victory. As in, the DMs whooped the Parking Thugs like they took'em out to the woodshed and let'em have it. Matt Forte scored more points in Week 1 than any player in the rest of our line-ups with 50-points!

Forte was the recipient of an 89-yard TD pass from Jay Cutler in Chicago's win over Detroit. Forte did most of the work on the short route, but he also scored from 28-yards later in the game. This dynamic star for the Delta Marauders (and the Bears!) will certainly be a formidable challenge in the weeks to come.

The Marauders also enjoyed a 30-point performance, plus 3 TDs, from Patriots star and iconic QB, Tom Brady. Sam Bradford had a respectable NFL debut with 12-points and 1TD. His team lost to Arizona, in part due to a late interception he threw, but he was a part of the Marauders winning efforts.

The Parking Thugs #1 and #2 picks, Philip Rivers and Tony Romo combined for 52-points themselves, leading the way for their teams in losing efforts to Kansas City and Washington. LeSean McCoy's 15-points was the only other top performer for the Thugs who look to strengthen their ways with the addition of Brandon Jackson to their line-up on Monday night.

That's all for Week 1 in the BCFFL! Best of luck in Week 2, everyone!

Respectfully submitted.
Alex
