THE MEGATONS
3rd PLACE!
109 (and counting) - 107
The Megatons wrapped up an impressive victory in Week 16's BCFFL Consolation Game. This year's game was a match-up of the #1 and #2 teams in the league as the Extra Crispy Division Champions, The Megatons, battled the Original Division Champion, Predators.
Although both of their QBs, Drew Brees and Matt Ryan, have yet to play, The Megatons have clinched a victory with 109-points because the Predators starting ten have played and totaled 107-points in defeat. With the additional points in tonight's huge NFC South battle, the match-up will be official. What is official, however, is that The Megatons finish the playoffs in 3rd place.
With two games to play in Week 16, the BCFFL Championship Game between the Delta Marauders and Backdoor Bandits is too early to call, though the DMs have a commanding 145-53 lead heading into tonight's game.
DWAYNE BOWE
35-points
One of the heroes of Week 16 for The Megatons is Dwayne Bowe who had 153 receiving yards and a 75-yard TD reception.
MILES AUSTIN
21-points
Bowe's partner-in-crime, Miles Austin, had 115 receiving yards and a 37-yard TD reception on Saturday against Arizona. Combined, The Megatons WRs had 56-points on 363 receiving yards, plus an additional two TDs from the tight end position, for a total of 4 ReTDs. The Predators were able to muster only 7-points from both Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Johnson. It was simply a down week for the Predators WRs though because on the bench was just 2-points out Deion Branch and Andre Johnson was out for the game against Denver.
ROB GRONKOWSKI
25-points
One of the many Patriots receivers to reap the rewards of Tom Brady who spreads a defense like no other is Rob Gronkowski. In Week 16, the Pats tight end had 54 receiving yards and a pair of 8-yard TD receptions for 25-points.
STEVEN JACKSON
13-points
The last major producer for The Megatons in Week 16 was Steven Jackson who had 13-points on 48 rushing yards, including a 1-yard TD run.
And so, the Extra Crispy Division may wind up with a sweep of the title and 3rd place in this weekend's final games of the post-season. The Megatons chased down the Cougars for the Extra Crispy Division title in the regular season, only to be in the way of the Tom Brady Express in the semi-finals. In the 3rd place game, The Megatons faced their old nemesis, the Predators, and gained a measure of revenge with this consolation prize victory.
ARIAN FOSTER
21-points
Arian Foster was impressive with 21-points on 91 rushing yards plus a 3-yard TD run for Houston. The Texans lost a tough game, 24-23, to Denver in Week 16. Foster also had 44 receiving yards.
JACOB TAMME
17-points
The Colts tight end, Jacob Tamme, had 78 receiving yards and an 18-yard TD catch in Oakland.
PEYTON MANNING
24-points
The Predators star QB, Peyton Manning, had 24-points with 3 TD passes in victory over Oakland. The Colts will play for the AFC South title next in the season finale.
PHILIP RIVERS
16-points
Lastly, Philip Rivers threw for 256 yards and a TD in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Congratulations on a very impressive regular season to the Predators. Dropping two straight in the playoffs to the Backdoor Bandits and The Megatons is a lousy way to finish such a dominant season. So once again, nice work on making it to the postseason as the league's #1 overall team. And better luck in the postseason next year.
Meanwhile, congratulations go out to The Megatons for being able to withstand a tough loss in Week 15 to the Delta Marauders and work their way back to a 3rd place finish. The fact that The Megatons were able to clinch the victory without the help of Brees and Ryan is an additional feat worthy of recognition. Your teams are always very competitive and successful, Andrew. Nice work!
